Html - Personalization

HTML Personalisation Diagram

All HTML pages are generated to use style sheets and therefore only browsers that support style sheets are recommended (however, in one customer situation where support for Netscape 4.0 was mandated alternates were inserted into the output to provide a solution.)

A number of standard HTML pages are generated for each project. These are merely suggested templates, but they must contain certain elements. These are as follows:

  • Home page - introduction page containing parameterize links to the login page.
  • Login page - project login page with a button to handle system security. This button calls a system method in the system data bean (see above) to validate users and direct them to the Main Frameset.
  • Main Frameset - this frameset is made up of the following pages.
    • Top Frame
    • Action Frame
    • Menu Frame

The size and contents of these pages may be tailored in the Designer personalization rule using predefined personalization and system elements. This is accomplished using system servlets to display menus, news items, alerts, and menus.

System Manager

A series of System Manager JSP pages/beans are provided to allow system data manipulation. These allow the user to update news items and commercial data on the System Manager tables.

Chapter 4 - Technical Architecture of the Solution

Servers

The Generated System is in Java™ and operates on a Java™ Application Server (internally or at an ISP). The architecture usually contains:

  • The Web Server
  • The Application Server (for instance ATG Dynamo, Sun Java System Application Server - formerly iPlanet / Sun ONE, JBoss. In essence we will work with any J2EE-compliant application.
  • The Database Server (we support all relational databases that are JDBC compliant and have completed projects using Oracle, Informix, Sybase, CA-Ingres, SQLServer, MySQL, and Cloudscape)
