Menus

The menus bring the programs together in a structure that reflects the user's access to the application:

Topic leads to Sub-Topic that leads to Programs

The Topic is the main entrance to the site (for example, by Customer, Supplier or Head Office). The Sub-Topic represents the options within the menu and the Programs are the selections from each Sub-Topic.

This organization extends into the System Manager where the user can be restricted by Sub-Topic. Thus, users only see what they are allowed to see.

Log-In

The Log-In is related to the Topic and is the first step in populating the menus, filling the global variables with data, and personalizing the first frame set. This is the first security step. Companies that have an existing Security System can replace the Log-In module with their own module provided they can populate the global variables.

System Manager

The System Manager manages the dynamics of the Menus and Log-Ins at the user level. A master security officer gives rights to a user or user group. The System Manager handles the day to day operation of many aspects of the web site, such as News, Commercial Information, time sequences for Alerts, Alert messages, Languages and so on. Effectively it holds all the common functions that the Business Analyst does not need to replicate for every application.

Events

Boxes containing entities, elements, rules, programs and events. Events box is shaded.

An event is effectively a function that is activated by a time-stamp or by an action rather than by a menu-driven program. The Designer ships with a number of pre-determined Callable Functions that activate events such as Business Alerts, E-mails, and SMS messages from within rules. The System Manager can activate the time trigger that governs these events.

We are currently working on an extension to these activities to send Alerts to PDAs (and synchronize with a PDA database using J2ME.)
