Most Application Server suites include the following:

• The Application Server should be a J2EE Java™ server that will keep pace as customer demands on the Web site increase. It provides the runtime engine for the rest of the product components.
• System Console is a system management tool that comes with the Application Server and lets the site administrator monitor the status and performance of the complete system in real-time.

You may acquire other complementary tools as the site grows for Analytics, Content Management, Personalization and third-party products such as certificate and credit card processing. These can be seamlessly integrated into the Application Server environment.

J2EE Compliance

Appligenics is committed to complying with the J2EE 1.3 standard to ensure that our customers have flexibility with their choice of Application Servers, operating system, and hardware.

Hardware and Software Pre-requisites

You should review your requirements with your software adviser or ISP to ensure that the system will scale as the volumes grow.

It is possible to run the complete suite on one server, but as indicated in the previous diagrams where performance and reliability are paramount, with large operations the application should be implemented over multiple servers. You can manage these environments in either a complete Microsoft network or a Sun Microsystems network or a combination of both. In either case you should familiarize yourself with the following hardware and software on which Appligenics generated systems operate:

Web Server Requirements:

• Netscape Enterprise Server
• Microsoft IIS
• Apache HTTPD Server

Web Browser Compatibility:

• Netscape Navigator 3.0 or higher
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher

Additional Software Required:

• JDK version 1.3 or above (can be downloaded free of charge from the Sun Microsystems web site)
• Suitable security and anti-virus protection software

Hardware Requirements:

• Memory: 256 MB RAM or higher
• Disk space: 2GB or higher

Operating Systems:

• Sun Sparc - Solaris 2.6 or higher
• Microsoft Windows - XP, NT or 2000
