Chapter 1 - IntroductionThe Product Range Appligenics consists of three core modules - the Designer, the Generator, and the System Manager. There is an optional module, the Linguist, for translation of the design. The Designer is delivered as a Network product so that many Business Analysts can work on the same design although, because of the high performance of the process, a typical team is only one Business Analyst. The design can be backed up to a portable PC for offsite work and presentations. The Generator generates Java™ for applications operating on any platform, and is JDBC-enabled to access any relational database. The System Manager contains common routines or objects for the generated system to avoid redundancy in projects. It includes operational functions such as:
The Linguist enables a design to be translated into any foreign language. The design can be sent, with the Linguist application, to translation agencies or overseas offices for off-site translation. Starter ApplicationsAppligenics has an extensive suite of Applications and a library of re-usable modules that can provide a complete system or be a starting point for new custom-built applications. These Applications include fully integrated Supply Chain suites for B2B and B2C, Recruitment for Permanent and Temporary employment, eCRM, College Admission systems, and multi-level B2B for Distributors. These are currently active in customer sites, and white papers are available on these applications. Master DeveloperThe Designer's security is determined by the master security officer, who assigns project access to the Business Analysts. The master security officer also owns the master database, where standard parent elements, callable functions, common entities, core languages, framesets, style-sheets, and any other standard functions are defined. Every new project inherits the master database automatically. White PaperThe next chapter discusses the fundamentals of the Designer so that the positioning and power of the Generator can be understood in the chapter following. The final chapter has some general guidelines on application server architecture in so far as it applies to the generated applications. |
